CHARLOTTETOWN -- A spokesman for a speedway in Prince Edward Island says the track will review its emergency protocol following the death of a driver during Saturday nights feature race. Jeremy MacDonald of Oyster Bed Speedway says track officials want to ensure a similar incident doesnt happen again. Robert Michael Stevens, of Riverview, N.B., died following a multi-car collision that saw his car flip onto its roof following a crash into the wall. While RCMP say the 30-year-old driver was uninjured from the initial impact, the driver had released his safety harness while still upside down in the vehicle. The Mountis say the race was "run in conjunction with reasonable safety protocols that were followed." MacDonald says the speedway hires at least one licensed emergency medical technician for every race night and there are usually several first responders at the track as well.
